EDGARTOWN, Mass., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Festival Co-chair Carol McManus today announced the schedule for the 2009 Martha's Vineyard Food & Wine Festival. From October 16 - 18, visitors and residents are invited to attend cooking demonstrations, food & wine tastings, culinary seminars, and wine dinners featuring the area's finest chefs, farmers, and specialty food purveyors. This distinguished group will host more than 13 events, all highlighting fresh, local ingredients.
Celebrity Chef Festival Kickoff - Friday, October 16 at 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
The Food & Wine Festival will begin on Friday, October 16, at 5:30 p.m. with an elegant evening on the campus of the Martha's Vineyard Museum. Hell's Kitchen Contestant Andy Husbands, chef/owner of Tremont 647 in Boston, and Top Chef Finalist Stefan Richter, chef/owner of Stefan's at LA Farm, will grill organic beef tenderloin and local seafood for guests to sample. Festival Emcee Dan Michaud of Ruby Wines will pour a selection of vintages. Guests can place bids on food and wine-related items, including "An Insider's Wine Country Getaway," during the silent auction. Tickets are $85, tables are $1200, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Martha's Vineyard Museum.
Wine Dinners at Local Restaurants - Friday, Oct. 16
Following this event, local chefs including Christian Thornton of Atria, Michael Brisson of l'etoile, and Antonio Saccoccia of The Grill on Main will host wine dinners highlighting their favorite vintners.
Culinary Seminars - Saturday, Oct. 17
Culinary experts will present seminars in Edgartown galleries, private clubs, and boutiques on Saturday, October 17. Top Chef Finalist Stefan Richter will share culinary tips during his seminar, and maybe a Top Chef story - or two!
Grand Tasting - Saturday, Oct. 17 - Chefs, Vintners, and Cookbook Authors
On Saturday, October 17, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., the Martha's Vineyard Museum will host the Grand Tasting. Distinguished island chefs, including Festival Host Chef Levon Wallace of Water St. at the Harbor View Hotel, Kevin Crowell of Detente, Christian Thornton of Atria, Michael Brisson of l'etoile, and Antonio Saccoccia of The Grill on Main will demonstrate dishes prepared with local, in-season produce, meats, and seafood, highlighting each chef's distinctive style. Noted vintners will pour wines for guests to enjoy. Acclaimed chefs and cookbook authors, including Andy Husbands, Cathy Walthers, and Carol McManus, will conduct a book signing. Tickets are $50.
Spanish Wine Dinner - Saturday, Oct. 17, 7:30 p.m.
Festival Host Chef Levon Wallace, Executive Chef of the Harbor View Hotel, invites guests to a 3-course Spanish wine dinner, wines courtesy of Ruby Wines. The menu includes Crispy Duck with Black Garlic and Butternut Squash accompanied by 2006 Etim Seleccion, Montsant. Tickets are $99 and include tax and gratuity.
Sunday Brunch - Oct. 18
Sunday brunch will be offered by several Edgartown restaurants, including the Harbor View Hotel and Detente, where Chef Kevin Crowell is presenting a multi-course brunch menu accompanied by champagne elevations.
