Health & Fitness-Related Goals Hit Record High
"People's concerns have returned to their waistlines, now more than ever," said Greg Helmstetter, CEO of myGoals.com. While health and fitness are always the most common category of goals tracked by myGoals.com, the past two years have shown a steady increase in the category's popularity. Last New Year's, health and fitness-related goals comprised 26%, up from the prior year's 22%.
"At 31% of all goals set, this is the highest level of interest in health and fitness that we've seen in the six years we've been tracking goals," said Helmstetter. The previous record was 27% in 2002, after which, interest declined for two years before trending upward again.
Goals comprising this category include those related to weight loss, general health, diet, nutrition, fitness, exercise, smoking cessation, alcohol and caffeine reduction, athletic events, and cosmetic enhancements.
