According to a smallish sample of just 2500 voters, the world's top brand is Google. Last year it was Apple. That is the verdict of the community of "brand-watchers" that each year gives its verdict on which brands are "hot" and which are not.

The results, announced today, are a reversal of last year's Top Two, where it was Apple that led, and Google that came second. The highest placed newcomer to the Top Five list was Skype, which placed...ahead of household names like Starbucks and IKEA.
