PokitDok Unveils Real-Time Data for Digital Health Developers

PokitDok Inc., a cloud-based provider of solutions for the business of health, announced the immediate availability of PokitDok Platform for developers. The PokitDok Platform is the first of its kind to enable access to current cash and reimbursement-based prices for health care treatments, deep provider search and real-time eligibility, claims and benefits enrollment through a JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) Application Programming Interface (API). Now, third party developers at payers, health systems and digital health companies who license the PokitDok Platform can easily create new apps to streamline the business of health and bend the cost curve down.

"Healthcare companies need simple ways to unleash the powerful data sitting in the healthcare system, and we can use PokitDok to help our payer clients better connect with and support families through a mobile experience,” said Leah Sparks, co-founder and CEO, Wildflower Health. Incubated at Rock Health, Wildflower Health produces mobile programs, like Due Date Plus, that connect families to the healthcare system so they can make smart decisions about cost, care and preventative health.

Enrollment in high deductible plans with health savings accounts tripled over the last five years, reaching more than 13.5 million, according to America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), the national association representing health insurers. Consumers are paying for more of their basic care out of their own pocket and raising questions about fair costs. Payers, health providers and employer groups alike are looking for ways to help ensure consumer health dollars are spent wisely with tools that allow them to discover, shop and pay for care up-front. The same programs provide revenue stabilization to health providers at a time when they are seeing bills lost to collections each month. PokitDok Platform makes data and systems available in an entirely new way, with tools and programming language support for Python, C#, PHP, Ruby and real-time interfaces that improve healthcare delivery, drive down costs and propagate innovation.

“There is so much waste in the current health claims reimbursement process, which can be streamlined to maximize value for the patient and revenue to the health provider,” said Lisa Maki, co-founder and CEO, PokitDok. “There are literally billions of dollars lost to collections or inefficient reimbursement processes that can be saved through simple and effective wellness and e-commerce solutions like ours and the ones using our API. Treatment doesn’t have to be this costly for consumers and providers who deserve to be swiftly compensated for care. This is a data arbitrage problem the PokitDok Platform solves today.”

PokitDok Platform is available immediately for developers at payers, health systems and digital health companies at platform.pokitdok.com.

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
